17 17 Historical Monuments





Historical monuments are very valuable for any country. They tell us about our history.


Historical monuments include the buildings that were constructed in ancient
and medieval time. Such buildings include temple, mosque, church, gurudwara,

palace, fort, pillars and many other residential houses of important persons.
Generally they refer to the history and help us to know about our ancient

culture. The beautiful designs, pictures, writings on the walls and ceilings of the
monuments tell us a lot about the life of people and the king. Tourists, scholars,
students have a great interest in historical monuments. Tourists from all over the

world come to India to visit these monuments. These are cultural heritage of the
country.

Some important historical monuments are the Taj Mahal Agra Fort , the Red

Fort , the Qutub Minar , the Humayun’s Tomb , the Sun Temple , the Kailash Temple ,

Mahabodhi Temple , Sanchi Stupa Jama Masjid Golden Temple , the Gateway of

Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor,
Shahjahan for his wife Mumtaz . He loved her

very much. He constructed the Taj Mahal in the
sweet memory of his beloved wife after her
death. The Taj Mahal is built of white marble . It

was built on the bank of Yamuna at Agra. About
20,000 people took 22 years to complete it. The
graves of both Mumtaz Mahal and Shahjahan are

inside the Taj Mahal near each other.
The Taj Mahal is one of the most beautiful

buildings of the world. It is also one of the
seven wonders of the world.

Agra Fort
The Agra Fort is also called the Red Fort in

Agra . It is built of Red sandstone. It was also
declared a world heritage site by U.N . It is just 2
