The Perennial Rivers of India
Perennial rivers have continuous flow throughout the year. The rivers of the

Himalayan range are the Indus , the Ganga and the Brahamputra . These rivers are
both snow-fed and rain-fed. They are the perennial rivers of India.

The Indus

The Indus has lent its name to India. The
Indus rises from Mount Kailash in Tibet and runs
many miles through the Himalayas before it is

joined by its tributaries the Jhelum , the Chenab ,
the Ravi , the Beas and the Sutlaj in the Punjab.

The Indus passes through Sindh (Pakistan) to fall
into the Arabian sea. The name the Punjab (punj
means five and ab means river ) means land of

five rivers .

The Ganga rises near Gangotri in the Himalayas and flows through Uttar

Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal to fall into the Bay of Bengal. The Ganga and its
tributaries–the Jamuna, the Gomti, the Garba, the Sarda, the Gandak, the
Chambal, the Son and the Kosi form the largest river basin in India. The Ganga

covers almost one quarter of the total area of India.
